A new home for Stanley this winter

Stanley getting to know his new friends

Donkeys across Ireland are facing a hard time. The cost-of-living crisis and rising prices of necessities such as straw make it difficult for their owners to provide for them.

Sadly, this has resulted in many more donkeys being abandoned. Our welfare team urge owners to reach out for help early on if they are struggling, as prevention is the key to managing the donkey welfare crisis in Ireland.

This happened in the case of Stanley, whose elderly owner was struggling to look after him.

After receiving a call, Donkey Welfare Advisers Eva Ellis and Jane Bruce were able to support Stanley’s owner and find a space for him at Leinster Horse and Pony Rescue.

With help from our Rescue and Rehoming Officers Dave Harte and Eugene Butler, Eva and Jane arranged for Stanley to be transported to his new home in Cavan. Here, he was introduced to another rescue donkey Noah, and the pair bonded immediately.

Stanley is happy at Leinster Horse and Pony Rescue

Stanley has settled in brilliantly and is enjoying his new life with his companion, and is making friends with everyone at Leinster Horse and Pony Rescue.

Finding new homes for donkeys whose owners can no longer care for them is a challenging but vital part of our work. By donating as little as €3 a month you can help us make sure no donkey is left out in the cold this winter.
