A new companion for Peter

Peter and Armani

Last July, our welfare team introduced Armani to Peter, who had lost his companion. Both donkeys are much happier now that they have a friend by their side.

Peter joined our rehoming scheme after we rescued him from a forest in Cork.

In 2009, he moved to the Guardian home in Co. Meath where he lived with his close companion, Paul. The donkeys were family to Brian Donovan and Paula Cummins, so it was devastating when Paul passed away.

It became apparent that Peter missed his friend, so we worked with his guardians to find him a new companion. We decided a donkey named Armani, who came to our sanctuary after being abandoned, might be a good match.

Donkey Welfare Adviser, Joe Prendergast, says:

I’ll never forget the loud bray Peter let out when Armani first arrived, and it’s been great to see his confidence grow since that day.

As you can see from the picture, the pair quickly bonded and have formed a strong friendship.
