Lorcan's retirement

Lorcan

At our Open Farm, Lorcan has been one of our most popular Adoption Donkeys, and he is also the oldest.

Therefore, the time has come for Lorcan to retire as an adoption donkey. He will continue to reside with the older donkeys but will no longer be available for adoption or renewal.

Lorcan was rescued by The Donkey Sanctuary in 1995. When our welfare team was alerted to a donkey in a worrying condition on the outskirts of Galway city, they found a very thin donkey whose ears were flopped over his head.

Upon further investigation, welfare advisers discovered that youths had chased Lorcan into a barbed wire fence and he was close to losing both ears as a result. He was only one years old.

When Lorcan arrived at our Sanctuary he became the 1,167th donkey to be taken into our care.

Due to his history, he was extremely wary of people and allowed very few people to approach him. Before long, Lorcan settled into life at our Open Farm, and he grew to love the affection from both visitors and staff.

Lorcan eventually moved into the Oldies donkey group, and he stands out due to his small stature and floppy ears. He is a gentle and friendly donkey with a big heart. Over the years, Lorcan has captured the hearts of many supporters worldwide and we are delighted he has made many loyal friends through our adoption scheme.

You will still be able to visit Lorcan, as well as our other rescued donkeys, at our sanctuary here in Liscarroll.
