A new home for Shimna
Posted on 29 March 2018.After a long day on the road I opened my emails and found myself simply smiling at the wonderful photos that new Guardian carer Julie sent through of Shimna in his new home in Monaghan.
Shimna was rehomed as a single donkey to Julie’s existing donkey Liam. Liam’s previous donkey companion sadly passed away and thankfully The Donkey Sanctuary was in a position to swiftly identify a new friend. As the photos clearly show Shimna has settled in fabulously well with Liam the donkey (as well as his new goat friend!). As Welfare Advisers we work hard to match up the right personality in a guardian donkey with their new prospective friends (whether a donkey, pony or horse). We also work towards meeting the new guardian home’s expectations of what they want in a donkey, whilst taking into account their handling capabilities and experience.

“Shimna’s doing really well and seems very happy. He looks smart in his new turnout and stable rugs! He loves his food and is very affectionate. Shimna and Liam have started to graze closer to each other in the field. He’s leading really well from the offside so I can take the three animals up and down the road together. Please feel free to call in for a cup of tea anytime you’re in the area”

“He’s getting on really well and his personality is beginning to come out. He very much likes things on his own terms!! Hopefully you’ll call back up to see us all before long”
