On Sunday May 15 we opened the gates of our farm and welcomed thousands of people to meet our donkeys and enjoy our festivities!
The sun was shining down on us as we enjoyed 20 degree heat and the ice creams were flying out of the Visitor Centre. The dog show commenced at 12.15pm and it was the first time that we held a dog show at the Sanctuary so we were unsure about how many people to expect. We were astounded by the volume of dogs that attended and we are so grateful to our sponsors of the dog prizes- Cobblestone's Kennels, Maxi Zoo, Pauline's Rescue, Hairy Hounds and Beth Taylor. The pooches and their owners were delighted with their rosettes and prizes. We had a range of winners from Poodles to Pointers!
Our donkeys Piggs and Alvin enjoyed being walked by little boys and girls and behaved impeccably. Donkeys Balfour and Dopey were superb in the donkey grooming ring and stood there freely while they were cuddled and groomed.
Club World Party Supplies and Kids Sand Art Magic attended and provided great entertainment for children while Sharon Brennan painted hundreds of little faces. We also welcomed Miss Cork Orla Clancy on the day.
Our treasure hunt had people rummaging around the farm looking for clues and the mules were a big hit also. Our new fairy houses and gardens were a big hit with people of all ages- thanks to our Quality Time Volunteer Eileen for creating these for us.
The adults enjoyed games from their childhood such as 'horse shoe throwing' and 'footing turf races'. Peppers and Spices food stall kept our visitors fed and the picnic area was bursting with people enjoying the beautiful day and great music.
It was a tremendous success and we are extremely grateful to all of our supporters for their generosity. We are very proud of our amazing staff and volunteers for the amount of work carried out in order to run such a smooth event.
