We are very fortunate that we have such a stunning farm and facility here that can care for hundreds of donkeys that need special attention. The staff and volunteers adore the donkeys and mules here in Liscarroll and we are delighted that we can extend our love of donkeys to the public by inviting everyone in to the Sanctuary to meet the donkeys first hand.
Donkeys are such stunning and sensitive animals that you cannot help but love them and want to spend time with them. This feeling echoes the world over as The Donkey Sanctuary works in over thirty countries across the world to improve the standard of living for donkeys and mules.
Here in Liscarroll we are often in awe at the volume of visitors that we get from all over the world and all over Ireland. Our visitor comments book is bursting with positive messages of support and our certificate of excellence from TripAdvisor says a lot about the staff and service we provide. We are blessed with such loyal, generous supporters who enable us to continue to rescue and rehabilitate donkeys and mules in need.
We never breed donkeys as there are far too many donkeys in desperate need of our help already, but we do LOVE having foals born into the safety of our care whenever we rescue a pregnant mare. In 2015 we rescued over 500 donkeys and a large quantity of those donkeys were pregnant mares so we have enjoyed an influx of beautiful and healthy baby foals this year, this is a huge attraction for visitors. It is blissful to see fields and barns full of healthy donkeys and visitors especially love this.
There are stunning walkways around the Sanctuary with an ample amount of memorial benches where one can sit, relax and take in the beauty of the countryside and donkeys. There is a vibrant Visitor Centre where one can enjoy a coffee, snack and pick up some unique gifts or adopt one of our six adoption donkeys. There is a secure picnic area where you are free to relax for the day. There is no admission or parking fee, we rely solely on the generosity of the public. We look forward to welcoming you very soon!
