Busiest year to date for The Donkey Sanctuary
Posted on 25 August 2015.As the summer draws to a close we reflect on the busy months that have passed us by. We here at The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland have been overwhelmed by 1) the amount of donkeys that we have rescued and 2) the volume of visitors that have visited our farm here in Knockardbane, Liscarroll.
It is astonishing to think that we have rescued almost 400 donkeys so far this year from every corner of the country. Each donkey with a unique personality and story to tell and now with a long, happy future ahead: 2015 has been the year where everything changed for these donkeys. They never have to fear being abused, neglected or alone ever again.
We have been equally blown away by the amazing people who have visited us and donated money for the donkeys this year. Our staff greet visitors from all over the world who have heard about the work that we carry out and felt inspired to see The Sanctuary first hand. We were honored to receive recognition for our hard work by means of a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor.
As well as welcoming patrons to our open farm, our staff regularly attend shows and events to publicize our vision of a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We hold regular Donkey Care Courses to educate the public on how best to care for donkeys.
Our dedicated Donkey Welfare Advisers that cover the 4 provinces of Ireland are great ambassadors for The Sanctuary when they stand up for the rights of donkeys in this country every day and also when they attend events. Our farm and maintenance staff put in mammoth efforts when preparing for events here on our farms and all of the background work that goes on in the fundraising, PR and accounts departments is immense. Keep an eye on our event listings and you will be guaranteed a great day out here.
This year we have attended countless events ranging from the prestigious RDS Horse Show in Dublin to the traditional Clonulty Vintage Fair in Tipperary. Huge thank you to everyone who came up to us at these events and expressed an interest in fundraising, re-homing, adopting a donkey or if you put a donation in the bucket we are truly grateful.
The donkeys are very excited about Halloween here at The Sanctuary because we have big plans in store! We look forward to attending Pet Expo in the RDS Dublin on November 7th and 8th, do come along and meet our show donkeys Ginny and Molly. Santa has also promised that he will be back again on November 29th to hear all of the children’s wishes. We will be picking the winner of our Christmas Raffle and have the local children singing carols on December 17th so please come along. Next year we hope to run Easter and Summer camps along with our famous treasure hunts!
We are so grateful for your continued generosity and support, The Donkey Sanctuary would not be here only for you- Thank You.
