Have you ever dreamed of doing a parachute jump and experience the exhilarating feeling of jumping from an aircraft at 10,000 feet and freefalling before your parachute opens at around 5,000 feet allowing you to soak up the fabulous views as you slowly descend.
The Donkey Sanctuary, Ireland has teamed up with the Irish Parachute Club based in Co Offaly to offer you the experience of a lifetime with an adrenaline-filled parachute jump.
What to do
You first have to have written permission to fundraise from The Donkey Sanctuary. The names of all the people participating must be on this letter.
Once you have permission, either fax a copy to 045 528571 or post to the Irish Parachute Club, Clonbullogue, Co Offaly We will then send you a sponsorship card, information leaflets and posters.
The Irish Parachute Club offers a reduced price for people who are fundraising, €260 per person. The minimum amount to be raised for the Donkey Sanctuary is €260 you will be required to bring a receipt from The Donkey Sanctuary with you on the day of your jump stating that you have handed in the required amount (€520).
Once you have fundraised €260 call the Irish Parachute Club on 1850 260 600 to book a date for your jump that will allow you to collect the remainder of your target and that suits your schedule.
There are two types of jumps you can do either a tandem or a solo.
- A tandem jump is where you are attached to an instructor and requires very little training, then you jump from 10,000 feet, you freefall for 30 seconds down to 5,000 feet, where you get a chance to steer the parachute yourself before the tandem instructor takes over for the landing.
- A solo jump where obviously you jump on your own requires a lot more training of at least 6 hours, you jump out at 3,200 feet and the parachute opens automatically via a static line.
- Tandem Jump - 16.5 stone
- Solo/Static Line Jump - 20 stone
Any person under 18 years must have parental/guardian consent and the parent/guardian must be with them on the day of the jump.
Persons over 50 year must have a note from their GP stating that they are fit and healthy to jump.
