Veterinary care

The Donkey Sanctuary has an excellent veterinary hospital designed specifically for treating donkeys.

Through our experience we have gained considerable knowledge on donkey care and our veterinary staff are happy to liaise with vets in Ireland, giving advice as required.

Our staff are able to impart this knowledge at veterinary conferences, thereby improving the treatment given to donkeys worldwide. Until a few years ago, the majority of vets tended to treat the donkey as a small horse but we have learnt that the donkey differs in many ways.

Pathology

Our pathology laboratory is responsible for all diagnostic work on our own donkeys, gives advice and support to other professionals, and accepts samples from donkeys and mules across the UK.

Full haematological, biochemical and parasitological samples can be analysed at The Donkey Sanctuary's laboratory.

This service is available to veterinary professionals only. To submit samples, please download and return our laboratory request form.
