Three donkey foals lucky to be alive

Three young foals called Tai, Jai and Kai came into our care last November along with another young foal after their owner tried to sell them at a fair in Co Galway. As the owner failed to sell them, a concerned donkey owner bought the foals because of the condition they were in. Since he was not in a position to keep the foals, he immediately contacted The Donkey Sanctuary and our Welfare team made arrangements for the foals to be collected. Sadly we were too late to save one little foal and he died from starvation just hours before we arrived - a deeply poignant and sad reminder of the severity of the neglect faced by so many donkeys today in Ireland.

Tai, Jai and Kai were luckier and underwent an intensive period of specialist care to save their lives. Under the watchful eyes of our Veterinary Staff they are slowly being nursed back to health, but their road to recovery will be a long one and they are not out of the woods just yet.

Without the help of our supporters we would not be able to help those unfortunate little animals. Every donation no matter how small is very much appreciated and is put to very good use in caring for donkeys here at the Sanctuary.
