Donkey expert in Mullingar as part of national tour

It's playtime!

A free ‘donkey care’ workshop has been arranged by The Donkey Sanctuary at Belvedere House Gardens and Park in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, on Saturday 20th June from 10am to 4pm for donkey owners.

The Liscarroll-based charity is running the ‘Why Does My Donkey’ Summer Tour to owners with practical advice on donkey behaviour.

Ben Hart, the charity’s Donkey Care Training Manager says: “Whether you are an experienced equine owner, have newly acquired donkeys or are thinking of purchasing one of our four-legged friends – this workshop is for you!

“Owning or caring for donkeys can be challenging at the best of times, but when donkey behaviour stops making any sense to us, or donkeys behave in an inappropriate way, it can be problematic and confusing.”

Topics also include:

  • Does your donkey refuse to stand quietly for the farrier or vet?
  • Does your donkey spook at things when you are out for a walk?
  • Catching, Leading and Picking out donkeys feet
  • Understand why donkeys do what they do

The ‘Why Does My Donkey’ Summer Tour is designed to help unravel some of myths that surround donkey behaviour.

The fun and interactive workshop is free to attend, however places are limited so early booking is advisable. Simply contact the Welfare & Advice Team today on 022 49013 or Linda Thompson welfare officer for the North of the Republic of Ireland on 087 2659957 for more details and to book your place.
