Appeal for marathon runners to help neglected donkeys

Sky, Lilly and Bart

The Donkey Sanctuary in Liscarroll is appealing for volunteers to run The Adidas Dublin City Marathon, held on Monday 26th October, to raise funds for its cause.

Paddy Barrett from the Sanctuary explains how sponsor monies can help make a difference: "The Donkey Sanctuary relies entirely on donations to care for neglected and unwanted donkeys, such as Sky, Lilly and Bart.

"Sky, Lilly and Bart came into our care in November last year having been found abandoned in Co. Wexford. All three donkeys had overgrown hooves but our farrier has been able to treat their feet successfully. These donkeys will receive a lifetime of loving care and attention with us.

"We really do appreciate all the hard work and training that is involved in running a marathon. The donations raised from taking part will be a huge benefit to donkeys like Sky, Lilly and Bart."

The marathon starts at Fitzwilliam Square East at 9.00am and finishes at Merrion Square West.
