The Donkey Sanctuary in Liscarroll is appealing for volunteers to run the Dublin Flora Women’s Mini Marathon, held on Monday 1st June, to raise funds for its cause.
Paddy Barrett from the Sanctuary explains how sponsor monies can help make a difference: "The Donkey Sanctuary relies entirely on donations to care for neglected and unwanted donkeys, such as Sky, Lilly and Bart.
"Sky, Lilly and Bart came into our care in November having been found abandoned in Co. Wexford. All three donkeys had overgrown hooves but our farrier has been able to treat their feet successfully. These donkeys will receive a lifetime of loving care and attention with us.
"We really do appreciate all the hard work and training that is involved in running a marathon. The donations raised from taking part will be a huge benefit to donkeys like Sky, Lilly and Bart."
Entry forms for the mini marathon can be obtained from the Evening Herald every Thursday and Saturday or by logging onto its website www.womensminimarathon.ie
The 10-kilometre marathon will start at Fitzwilliam Square and finish at St Stephen’s Green in Dublin.

The Donkey Sanctuary in Devon has just launched its Sanctuary from Suffering awareness campaign. During its 40th anniversary celebrations it aims to highlight the hard work that goes on overseas to give working donkeys a chance to rest and receive expert veterinary care.
